Make Every Day Count

It’s amazing how quickly time has flown and we are already into the third week of the new year.

A few days ago, my lovely water hyacinth bloomed.

I had waited months and shifted their water pots around to find the perfect condition for them to do better.

The recent move out of the shade and into the full sun must have done some wonders and I was rewarded with healthy inflorescences that finally bloomed.

But alas the joy was short-lived as I found that the flower buds will develop in the morning and bloom in the afternoon, before wilting off by evening.

Something so beautiful and precious but only for a fleeting moment for our pleasure and enjoyment.

A few days ago, I lost a precious community member to cancer. I got to know him when he was at the last stage, when nothing more could be done, as he had a very rare form of cancer, and did not respond well to conventional treatment. While I am very sad that he went downhill very quickly and suddenly passed away within a month, I am heartened that in the one year that he was part of the EB community, he was well enough to travel and tie up many loose ends that he wanted to.  Additionally, we also had beautiful times together, enjoying lots of yummy food and great company. He was also a fantastic cook by the way.

His passing has made me very sad. For I know that cancer is a very hard disease to tackle. Once stricken, we just have to learn to manage and live with it all the days of our lives.

Hence, I always very strongly advocate preventing the disease from even ever rearing its ugly head. This we can do by choosing the appropriate lifestyle, diet and correct nutrients for cellular health. But if it does make an appearance, then we know we have done all we can to try and stop it, and go seek additional support and help from the best in medical science that is readily available in Singapore.

But finally, just like the water hyacinth, even if we were only able to bloom for a day, in that one day, let us then accomplish our life cycle happily and complete.

Make every day count. Stay happy. Stay well.
